I work for a tiny nonprofit school here in Vermont, and since 1984 we've held an annual Spring/Mother's Day "Brunch Bag" fundraiser. We fill the bags with fresh foods from local Vermont food makers -- contents vary from year to year but generally include baked goods such as croissants/rolls, jam and cheese, sweet treats such as chocolates or brownies, plus a long stemmed rose. Volunteerism is highly valued at our school: Brunch Bags is an all-volunteer effort, from procuring the contents, assembling the bags, mapping delivery routes, and personally delivering over 1,000 bags door-to-door throughout the county (and beyond). As many as 300 bags are donated to individuals served by local service organizations such as COTS, Steps to End Domestic Violence, Cathedral Square, Lund Family Center, and the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge. And that's where you come in. If you'd like to buy a bag to donate to one of our service orgs, you would be supporting our school AND giving a complete stranger a really nice surprise this weekend AND helping us support our local businesses from whom we buy the contents for the bags.
