The more the government extends its surveillance over the internet under the pretence of &quot;won&#39;t someone please think of the children&quot;, the more I&#39;m inclined to go back to physical media. @pedro_mateus@mas.to Sadly all the new cassette mechanisms are junk so you are better off finding an older one and trying to repair it. Not sure about CD players with MP3. I know for Record players there are lots of options but the Audio Technics LP120/140 is a classic that is still being made 40 years later.

@pedro_mateus@mas.to they younger generation is really into physical media now. I think it's because they never got to experience it. Old hardware too, it's a lot higher prices for used vintage gear now.

@pedro_mateus@mas.to digital is fine - start collecting FLAC files and build your own Spotify with something like Navidrome. Self-hosting is fast becoming the future for all the reasons you say. #selfhosting
