@scott@mastodon.clitheroe.ca @mike@thecanadian.social @pachli@mastodon.social people have been using blocklists on fedi for a significant amount of time and it's been demonstrated to be a pretty bad idea. every time it's ended up some barely auditable mess where people managing the blocklist have some level of institutional power, marginalized people get readily thrown under the bus and shitlisted if they are too inconvenient for the manager, and collaborators of the blocklist put far too much faith in the system. TBS was a very strong example of this where it positioned itself as some kind of making the fediverse safer operation but was mostly just used to silence transfems

@corpsedoll@pl.kotobank.ch @pachli@mastodon.social @mike@thecanadian.social "where people managing the blocklist have some level of institutional power, marginalized people get readily thrown under the bus and shitlisted if they are too inconvenient for the manager" With these collections, the choice to follow a collection, or block a collection is an end-user choice exclusively. The choice to appear on a collection is similarly at the exclusive discretion of the account holder.
