@Thatonepersonwithaface@todon.eu yeah, that connection to Art the Clown is this cruel intimacy that seems like the goal of the film is to relish the cruelty and intimacy and that just isn't for me
i love horror - but not because i like the cruelty of it and sitting there going "he's just like me fr fr" as i watch Leatherface drag a woman back into his murder den

@hex@dads.cool That's the other side of it, you look at all those other slasher villains, they're given some sort of backstory that lends at least a little bit of humanity, whereas Art is just "He'll hack someone up while smiling and you get to watch it all", there's no real connection or story to him. As a special effects showcase, they're beilliant, but even Maniac, with all of Savini's antics, had something to hold onto.
