The other species that are often bought on a whim are parrots, parakeets, cockatoos etc. Once their owners experience their noise and flapping round the house they either put them in a cramped cage or simply open the window and let them fly out to die in winter or be killed by passing hawks.

@pacman@swiss.social Absolutely. Birds aren’t decor—they’re wild, smart, and loud for a reason. Locking them up or ‘freeing’ them to die is just lazy cruelty. People need to stop treating animals like disposable hobbies. Ring-necked parakeet spotted in the Ticino sky—this is a problem for another bird...news that doesn't surprise me...
