@GottaLaff@mastodon.social his supporters identify with him. He "says what they're thinking" and they trust him because of it. The fact that he's actually a deeply corrupt billionaire just makes them happy because they identify with him, so feel like they benefit from his unshared victory. Like, the right wing here just sells identity/a sense of superiority, not actual material improvement. Hateful, egotripping dumbasses. Also, media bubbles etc... they only believe what they see on stormfront, these days.

@GottaLaff@mastodon.social i feel like Republicans greatest rhetorical trick was branding anti-discriminatory legislation as "identity politics," making it much harder to describe what they benefit from, ie: people identifying with their oppressor and other in-group BS. I heard a racist trash co worker taking about he doesn't think desantis is "on our side" because of some corrupt money thing, as if that doesn't materially define his politics more than the bigotry he uses for votes. Just supremacist ego crap

@cykonot@mas.to Oh I know, I say that all the time. His supporters: "He sounds just like me!"
