What happens when the sun doesn’t shine they cry… Well, we’re half way through the tenth day of the month after a week of dreary overcast skies and —so far— the very modest solar system on my roof has generated 128.5kWh. Some (the purple) went straight into the heat pump, washing clothes, cooking or into the battery to do those things later. The rest (53% or 68.1kWh in red) was sent out to the grid. I buy energy at 12.96p/kWh and I sell it back at 12p so even if I export now and buy it back…

…later it only costs me a net 0.96p per kWh to ‘store’ energy that way. And, remember, this is when the weather isn’t all on my side.
