I hated anything that made me the center of attention in school. 🤬 Did y'all have to memorize the Gettysburg address and recite it to the class or was that a particular form of torture for us olders they did away with?

@crcollins@writing.exchange @saposcat@indieauthors.social We did not. However, a few teachers would bribe us to learn things with candy. For example, for every ten US presidents we learned, we got 10 pieces of candy. To this day, I still know the first ten presidents. 😅

@crcollins@writing.exchange @SJHoodlet@writing.exchange The only thing I remember having to memorize and recite was Jabberwocky, which was actually fun (even though I'm sure I did a poor job at it.) We did have to memorize all the presidents (I think it was up to Reagen at that point) and one fact about each of them, but I don't think we had to say anything out loud, just a written test.
