I remember reading an article a few years ago that said the sub 2h marathon was probably 20-30 years away.

Here’s their 2013 article about a sub-2 min marathon. https://scienceofsport.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-sub-2-hour-marathon-dont-get-ahead.html?m=1 “This record is not going to be "smashed" by anyone. Anything greater than 20 seconds is a big improvement.” It was smashed by 65 seconds. 😳
