Would you believe me if I told you despite being opted-in automatically, opting out almost always requires that you fill out a paper form, find a stamp and mail it to them and hope they don't pretend it was "lost in the mail?"
The only reason we can even opt-out is because of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) of 1999. Which the industry lost their $hit over, because "over regulation." It's not all good, though. GLBA killed key provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, which prohibited banks and insurance companies from operating as combined entities.
