Looks like someone built a tool to check your LinkedIn network for names from the Epstein documents. Soon I expect other tools will follow to work with other social media platforms. This is what the beginning of community accountability looks like. Just because the legal system is captured doesn’t mean there are zero consequences. https://github.com/cfinke/EpsteIn Yes, I know I am mentioned in the files, but I can’t control when other people mention me. #epstein

  • @thedarktangent I think I’d sleep with more peace of mind that random scripts downloaded from GitHub are not touching my contacts than worrying one of my contacts might be associated with Epstein. lol

@thedarktangent automating this is damn near negligent. The Epstein files contain copies of many open source licenses and copyright statements verbatim for some reason. So many open source maintainers are in them lol

  • @thedarktangent I am becoming increasingly concerned around a person being immediately vilified because their name was found in these files. Evidently you are well aware of this and I hope you share these same concerns. There's random posts, articles, etc in those files - a script parsing for and finding references to name could mean literally nothing. Last thing I want to see is something getting cancelled over this and we come to find out it was because a pedo shared an article that had that someone's name in it. There definitely needs to be more due diligence here to make sure this doesn't happen. We live in a world where most people just read headlines which can be VERY dangerous here.

  • @thedarktangent what if the "John Doe" you have in your LinkedIn, isn't the same "John Doe" mentioned in the files?

@thedarktangent I feel like this is moral grandstanding. The likelihood of you knowing anyone who is has huffed one of Epstein's farts, much less is actually connected to him is pretty nil. I just feel like this is trying to create connections where there is none. If you can afford to have an underaged girl for the night on an elite private island, chances are you're not on LinkedIn. Ashley Madison maybe, but not Linked in.

@thedarktangent Ah, isn't there a big danger people with same or similar names get falsely marked?

  • @thedarktangent yeah, someone wrote a script that shoots all of your contacts to a random person's API. Just "first name last name" tho, but if you match it to IP you at least know that a person sitting behind this IP has this set of contacts. You'd probably need to host the files as text locally - not sure how big that dataset would be.

@thedarktangent We need Shinigami Eyes (https://shinigami-eyes.github.io/) but for the Epstein files

  • @thedarktangent I would like to see a hyperlinked page so I can review the data by myself and come to my own conclusions. That way I don’t have to give my data to anyone. Though I do agree that most of us don’t associate with pedos, and if we accidentally do so unknowingly, I think people would understand. As a gay man of a certain age, I experienced being slandered/libeled by assholes pretending to be Christian, since as a power grab based in bigotry they wrongly claimed ALL gay men (or the vast majority) wanted to do little boys. So, for no reason based in reality, I’ve been tarred with that brush. It’s a stinky brush. Even with that in my past, if I found out someone who I am connected with on LI behaved reprehensibly, I’d sever the relationship. Anyone who would give me grief because I was connected to them would be roundly ignored because knowing someone bad isn’t the same as being bad. My late dad was a multi-year multi-time federal convict. I look just like him and behave almost 100% opposite of him. No one should give me grief because of what my dad did before his death last century.
