@aparrish@friend.camp to be fair, it is a cult.
Often you need to be cautious, what you say and how you say it. Otherwise you'll end up in being excluded or people laugh at you, thinking you're getting insane and don't know what you say. I see this described behavior as a kind of self-defense mechanism and it feels legit.

@CriticalSilence@social.tchncs.de It is more than one cult. The outter shell is a cargo cult. As for the rest.. If you look at the "philosophy" of the people really deep into this, it is often just recycled christian apologetics. I want to know how many of these people are non-religious, from religious communities, that came to their beliefs by working backwards from downstream culture. e.g. Roko's basilisk is just Pascal's wager + assuming an absolute answer to the teletransportation paradox. @aparrish@friend.camp
