@hakona@im.alstadheim.no Yes blocking is no problem, block away. The problem is that the sysops of the big servers have too much power. It reminds me of student politics... The stakes are so low, yet there is so much drama..

@erici I've been the subject of at least one rather careless defederation incident. Irritating, but that's life. I agree that the larger instances are probably too large. If ever I'm called upon to recommend an instance for somebody, I'll probably recommend finding one outside the two-three largest. I'd call the current situation liveable, if ever a large enough number of people believe they are blocked or defederated unreasonably, the fediverse might fracture. 1/2

@erici Also: there is indeed so much drama. There comes a point where you just move on and forget about what ever the kerfluffle was.

@erici @hakona@im.alstadheim.no The other side of that coin is that petty tyrant admins who will censor at the drop of a hat are reluctant to defederate from larger instances since it isolates them more than it works as a punishment for individuals. Personally, I prefer a more hands off moderation (barring obvious stuff like naked bigotry, spam etc.), I don't want to always be wondering if my opinions align with what the mods think I should think. In that way some of the larger instances serve as an anchor.
