@dieweltist@bunt.social if it were possible to train an LLM entirely locally or in such a way that the contents of the LLM are entirely inspectable and editable. And it was practically possible to run on a machine that people could reasonably have at home then I'll consider it not a problem from a free software ethics point of view. If the only PRACTICAL way for people to access the capability is by renting access to proprietary software on someone else's computer then it is not empowerment

    @hp@mastodon.tmm.cx Building a browser is also pretty infeasible for a lot of people right? Or their Android. Would you consider an LLM with open training data which can be "built"/trained with a single command (and vast computing resources) a tool of emancipation? /gen I'm honestly a little torn about this topic.
