@CosmicTraveler@mastodon.social @madduci@mastodon.social I have my doubts. Current European iPhones retain the physical SIM card slot, unlike US ones. Which means the US iPhones are already different to European ones.

@peemee@theblower.au @CosmicTraveler@mastodon.social @madduci@mastodon.social yeah, but the only part that's different is the housing, on the inside there's just an empty spot (or a piece of plastic? I forget...) So from an assembly line point of view, it makes no difference, and my conspiracy theory on why they did it is because US carriers lobbied for it (because eSIM = DRM). With the battery, it's Apple themselves though, so I'd assume this comes down to whether a separate assembly line is cheaper for them vs. just letting the rest of the world replace their batteries too...
