@recursive@hachyderm.io The problem I see is not that technology is magic, but that some technology is expensive to build. You can't just slap together a 20nm CPU factory in your garage, even if you know exactly how to do it. And that's sad. I look forward to the invention of Star Trek replicators. This will unshackle an awful lot of would-be inventors.

    @argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org I recognize this feeling of frustration But I wonder if instead we should ask ourselves if our urge to do something individually is necessarily the right thing, or if it's a consequence of not being supported enough by the systems around us. It's common for us who do technical work to dream of technical solutions to social problems -- but maybe we should also be able to access existing resources and cooperate with others more easily than is possible today
