@chfkch@ruhr.social well the google play version alone has +1 million downloads, there are quite some amount of users using it but if you are comparing with WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal numbers, well there is no marketing or event that made it viral like "Snowden is using this" or some super famous billionaire figures promoting it so the user base is growing very slowly by pure mouth-to-mouth of people that have really liked it

@arcanechat@fosstodon.org @chfkch@ruhr.social last week I had a developer try to reach out to me about a post that was on my blog and they did it through DeltaChat. They remarked that they'd never heard of it before, but it was so easy to sign up and contact me. People are just so exhausted from the effort of signing up for new things, picking passwords, confirming accounts, wondering if their email/info is going to get leaked... you can't blame them for being hesitant to try something new that hasn't crossed the threshold of providing massive network effects yet. glad they tried it and hope they continue using it. (also they seemed to think it was like the only way to contact me -- a real email address was available as well as *this* fedi account, but okay??)
