I love the recent sensationalist "news" of C64 disk drive (actually it was compatible with more than just that, but let's leave that aside for now) is "powerful enough to be a computer". Guys, that's not news. It has the same CPU as Commodore 64 and had 16KB of ROM and 2KB of RAM and its ROM (firmware) had means for programming the RAM using the serial bus it used. And they even made it bit-bang the video signal in the "Freespin" demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zprSxCMlECA So yeah, it WAS a computer from very beginning. #retrocomputing #commodore64 #c64 #commodore

    @branch300bpm@social.vivaldi.net I remember the nice thing with the drive was that computing on it was much faster as the C64 CPU was busy most of the time with printing the screen while the disk CPU would not be interrupted and could just compute.
