@Lluis_Revilla@fosstodon.org @lgatto@fediscience.org @bioconductor@genomic.social all those those still exist but there are also a lot of conversations happening in slack for bioconductor. If there is already a public forum, is zulip or slack necessary? Another example is nextflow which AFAIK only has slack and no public forums, and not everything discussed in there is specific to nextflow. But I do take your point at AI crawlers.

@keyboardpipette@genomic.social I am part of several groups, we use these chats to coordinate agendas, schedule meetings and private discussions (on the Code of Conduct committee). I don't think these should be publicly available, I even doubt it should be stored forever. @lgatto@fediscience.org @bioconductor@genomic.social

@keyboardpipette@genomic.social @Lluis_Revilla@fosstodon.org Hijacking thread slightly - nextflow forums are actually open: https://community.seqera.io/tag/nextflow (and the Slack is being wound down) nf-core remains on slack though. Conceptually: because (my opinion/feeling/impression) most (younger?) people don't like communicating via forums. They like the more 'human' interaction you get from real time chat. And unfortunately (also in my experience) there are no truly good alternatives UX wise to Slack etc that have open indexing
