@benkiel@typo.social @jla@typo.social The standardisation committee didn’t want to touch the core layout (called T1) to avoid creating inconsistencies with existing hardware. But ẞ was added to the standardised extended layout E1.

@benkiel@typo.social It is not (yet), except for the uncommon E1 layout. It would be logical to make ẞ available via [Shift] + [ß] at some point—the way any other letter behaves. As of now, you still have to jump through some hoops to get there, depending on your OS—e. g., on Windows, it’s [Alt Gr] + [Shift] + [ß]. I don’t know when or if we’ll get there, though, because [Shift] + [ß] = Question Mark is hard-wired in many people’s muscle memory.
