@airakose@mastodon.gamedev.place what would be interesting is if sloppy code lead to the optimization being used in only part of the runework, potentially causing the spell to be only *half* applied, causing unpredictable results or possibly the risk of just crushing the not-of-this-world target like a bug between two invisible rocks "Oops, those two forces weren't ever supposed to interact"

@mcc@mastodon.social @airakose@mastodon.gamedev.place ooh, so an artefact like an enchanted bowl or whatever are essentially a compiled spell, where you'd better know what optimisations and what platform settings were used.

@mcc@mastodon.social @airakose@mastodon.gamedev.place I immediately thought of a long-term project like a castle, where there were competing factions; manasavers and otherworlders. the manasavers have obvious motivations, and tend to be younger. the otherworlders are generally (but not exclusively) older, and hold on to a belief that there *are* other worlds (if not, why would the optimization even work?) and that it’s shoddy work to optimize this way. so abutting regions would have conflicting histories
