I was reminded today of the way we Olde Ones used to get fansubbed anime in the mail. You'd have to find a distro online and mail them some blank VHS tapes plus cash for shipping back, and usually (if it wasn't a scam or got lost in the mail) you'd get your tapes back months later with some fansubbed anime recorded on them Some distros wouldn't require you to mail blank VHSes, they'd send you their own. Perhaps most memorably, Kodocha Fansubs would send you Barney-purple tapes lol
