Mattermost sometimes comes up * Fully released * Limited free use* * "Open core"? * Self-hostable * Some E2E? * Supports calls * No web app (*correction: appears to have one) Mattermost is interesting, but seems to be far more of an enterprise solution. It's even hard to figure out *what* you get from self hosting, what actually is open source, etc. I think it's probably worth investigating further if you're looking for something for your company/teams?

@mdiluz@mastodon.gamedev.place I use Slack daily - both for work, a public/general discourse workspace for a programming language, and for another group I’m a member of that I help manage the space for. Slack is a good tool for orgs, and their AI features can be easily disabled across board which is nice. My biggest gripe though - they advertise paid plans to all users if you’re on free, including non workspace owners. Was a bit annoying to see a sale advertisement on my work Slack for the entirety of January, for a space I have no control over other than using for discussion.
