As a #Linux user, you sort of need to be a bit careful with the tech (hardware or software) you go with, and I've made a few mistakes in the past years, so I felt it would be cool to look at my worst tech purchases as a Linux user, but also in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT7Fp2Zv5fY

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social You should look for a Fairphone 5 on the secondhand market. It’s even more sustainable than usual because you’re buying it used, and /e OS is officially supported. I switched to the Fairphone six months ago, and I’m very happy with it. We don’t even need to talk about /e OS - it’s just fantastic <3

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social Great video for smartphones. I’m on iOS too, but if I had to choose right now, I’d go for a Samsung or a Nothing 4 Pro. The only apps I use that are similar to AirDrop are LocalSend and Pairdrop. For a fitness tracker, I recommend the POLAR Loop—it doesn’t require a subscription, and you can still wear a classic watch if you don’t need notifications.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social my worst purchase blunder was probably steelseries mouse and headset. i cannot change the rgb and eq presets or button mapping anymore on linux and otherwise they're just poor quality and have proprietary-ish hardware like the recessed micro usb port on the mouse where you need to shave down most cables for them to fit or the weird port on the headset where u can only buy low quality cables from steelseries...

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social I've a number of wireless USB dongles that I bought a good few years back that I just cannot get to work properly or at all in GNU/Linux.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social You should check out the FuriLab FLX1s. A flagship, it is not, but I've been daily driving mine for 4 months now.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social I wouldn't use a fitness app/watch/etc if I was given them for free. I exercise daily using a basic MP3 Player [not a smartphone] and a stopwatch on my basic Casio digital watch. I manually add the times into a program called SportsTracker. Keep it simple.
