One thing that Sarah fails to mention in her video is how the cost of fertilizer shot up right after Russia invaded Ukraine. I looked mainly at Fertilizer futures (UREA) and see that the prices now are not as close to the prices in February of '22 (when Russia invaded Ukraine even though we got pretty close in mid April).

    @coolcalmcollected@mastodon.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io Specifically looking at Di-ammonium Phosphate, the prices are lower than Feb '22 but there is a positive correlation with UREA. So a combination of commodity prices going up, compressed margins due to tariffs and destruction of their export market, makes this a perfect storm for a future food shortage. The government could step in and bail out the farmers, but at this point, Trump doesn't need their votes anymore and doesn't plan on going anywhere so 🤷‍♂️
