@Cetraria@neurodifferent.me yes, that's the main reason! It's infuriating. They cut the whole cable, leaving the tower out of service sometimes for weeks. It's a costly and difficult repair. They even do it with the low-voltage chargers, which are thinner and don't have that much copper to start with. They do it also with other important infrastructure, such as electrical system for the light rail (which also has to stop service due to copper theft). I read a blog where someone calculated how much money could you get from each charger cable cut and it was.. not that much. My conspiracy theory is that *someone* may be paying extra for copper from specific sources. But they hit everyday targets as well. There was a cafe in Ballard which got stolen the condensers from their walk-in cooler. It's a plague.
