But my heart always turns to the Unseen University and Rincewind. They want to understand the world, but have so many fundamental discompatibilities with that world and they're starting from such broken assumptions. Their failures aren't from a lack of effort or the strength of their opposition, but their own deep flaws. Likewise, Rincewind's overriding concern is just seeing tomorrow (and a nice sandwich) in a world that very much doesn't want that. #TerryPratchett #GNUTerryPratchett #Discworld

If you haven't read Pratchett or Discworld, you're in for an utter treat. There are so many ways to approach the library. Pyramids and Small Gods are both mostly independent of the other themes, and were written after Pratchett really found the voice of the Disc. If you're unsure about the whole thing, these are good toe-dippers. If you read by publication date, you can really see Pratchett's style develop over the series. But The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic don't really highlight what makes Discworld so unique and special. You can also just pick a group to follow and read through their stories. Whether it's the Wizards, the Witches into Tiffany Aching, Death, the City Watch, or the Industrial Revolutionaries, you can just grab one and follow it through. If you want to share it with younger kids, there are a few books that work especially well for them too. The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents is a wonderful reimagining of the Pied Piper story, and a great way to hook folks working on "chapter" books. Likewise, the Tiffany Aching books benefit from knowing the Witches (Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat) but it's not a hard requirement. #TerryPratchett #GNUTerryPratchett #Discworld
