you don't need to spend anything, you'll have a lot of racers and some cards
if you want specific racers, you need to save up gems for them to get them, which I don't find hard (the hard part is waiting months for them to be featured, you just end up saving up the gems until then)
and you might also wanna save gems for good cards, because a lot of cards are just bad
spending money doesn't do much unless you're spending A TON
with the exception of special events where you can buy a guaranteed racer/card, or a selector that lets you pick whichever you want. I've bought a few of those ngl

@tlapka@ak.kawen.space after the racer’s career is over you can’t use them anymore but they pass on their skills or something?

@tlapka@ak.kawen.space @aceattveg@gamepad.club it's one of the few gachas I've felt good about spending a little money on, because buying enough premium currency to guarantee a horsegirl is 250-400 USD (depending if you get the gems during a yearly sale or not) and you have to wait for her banner to even do that but 2-3 times per year you can pay 20 USD to pick one girl of your choice released before that date which feels like crazy value in comparison
