In terms of building a competitor, we're not there yet but we'll be launching our own email service (hopefully) soon: https://tb.pro/ Regarding the possibility that Microsoft pulls the rug on us, it exists for sure, but considering they've been building those public APIs for a long time already, and are even introducing new ones (with Graph), I personally don't really see them pull a move like this at least in the short-to-medium term.
