@mattiem@mastodon.social this has to be a joke right? If letting an LLM rewrite bypasses license protection then surely just copying and pasting the code or rewriting it by hand does too.

    @kp@mastodon.design I believe it is a joke. But also, the “clean room reimplementation” is legally-significant. (Not that laws actually matter much in this regard anymore)

    @kp@mastodon.design @mattiem@mastodon.social Unfortunately, there are already folks following the “clean room” approach (as defined in legal precedent). Have one LLM pass read the code and generate a specification. Have a second, separate, LLM pass use that specification to generate “new” code. It’s like money laundering, but for intellectual property theft.
