Over 40 suggestions have come in for the 'Totemic Books for Many Fields' page, thank you so much!! The page has now been much expanded, and also has a section on books that didn't quite make it, and some further guidance on just what kind of stone cold classics (or books that should be) I am looking for: https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/totemic-books-for-many-fields/#some-more-on-what-books-should-be-on-this-page
