@mynameistillian@plush.city @mawr@plush.city nah, the rise started in 2021. this was after work from home was taking off and businesses adapted to work within stay at home orders. lot of people were laid off during the pandemic and new hirings stalled as businesses restructured. that turned out very well, actually, which is probably the main reason you see the growth you do. people working from how was actually great for tech. when they forced people back to office it actually harmed them, but they didn't care

@mynameistillian@plush.city @mawr@plush.city it's about power, see. and for managers to feel important bossing people around in person. they need to feel seen in doing their jobs, not just because they get off on power, but also because they're insecure about being unneccessary to the running of the business. they don't want people to see that workers don't need them. but also a lot of these guys are extremely lonely and the only socialisation they get is with a captive audience of employees
