@quad@masto.quad.moe @Wolf480pl@niu.moe @lain@pleroma.soykaf.com @howl@social.zxq.co Except even way back when publishers tracked their subscribers. They know where you live, in order to deliver the periodical. Their tacking stats and knowing which affluent neighborhoods were subscribed is how they justified the price for running a print advertisement. The more privacy oriented behavior is to rummage through the neighbor's recycling bin to obtain their copy of the previous day's newspaper.

@cj@i.write.codethat.sucks @howl@social.zxq.co @lain@pleroma.soykaf.com @Wolf480pl@niu.moe we never had a newspaper subscription tbh. we always just bought the newspapers at the store each day. though of course. But I feel like if you willingly type in your address somewhere. Then it's cool. Someone tracking you everywhere based on your IP without really saying anything (at least not clearly) is what I hate

@cj@i.write.codethat.sucks @quad@masto.quad.moe @lain@pleroma.soykaf.com @howl@social.zxq.co were they really doing that? Anyway, that's still less invasive than tracking mouse cursor movement on websites. I don't mind publishers sifting through webserver access logs to figure out who (IP, user agent) opens which URLs. But anything clientside is too much IMO.
