@martenson@mastodon.world There are things copyright does not deal with (like if you decide to play the music you bought backwards at home to hunt for secret messages), and there are things that it does cover but are permitted anyway to some extent. Fair use is the US specific doctrine for that, and it varies greatly by country. That covers things like parody, reviews etc.
Fair use will have some bearing on what a LLM AI can do with the information in the USA. Expect rights holders to go venue shopping though

@etchedpixels@mastodon.social EU does not have fair use per se, but explicitly states cases and imho overlaps well. Notable cases are use by educational institutions (where I suspect academic LLMs would go) and use related to disability (which you mentioned elsewhere).
