I was raised in an Ethical Humanist congregation, and continue to raise my kids there. I've never believed in the supernatural, and I never had to deprogram myself, so I don't think my atheism is noteworthy.
I've also never been interested in the Atheist Industrial Complex: Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, et al.
If you deprogrammed yourself, were these folks helpful in that journey?
If you enjoyed them at some point, what was the appeal?
(I enjoy dunking on the evils of religion as much as the next person. It ultimately seems like clickbait/ragebait tho)

@heathborders@hachyderm.io I had kind of an opposite journey. I was deeply atheist and I married a militant atheist who was getting second hand Dawkins from Penn and Teller. He was so incredibly annoying about believing in “science” he didn’t understand and didn’t bother to learn that it drove me towards being more spiritual. I am not Christian Nationalist but I believe that there are things in the Universe we don’t understand that could be construed as religious. 🤷♀️
