@RuthSalter@mastodon.scot They really really didn't want to examine their own thoughts and each of them shut down the conversation. I feel this small fraction of people are largely beyond reach. There are other Reform voters who aren't and, as the article suggests, seem to have very different views to Reform/Farage on many topics but see them as "different". There's a much bigger group (in the 350 people who's doors I knocked on) who are worried about Reform and feel abandoned by Labour.

    @slowe@mastodon.me.uk Yeah, I think there's a benefit to recognising where the energy is worth spending. I also had a properly horrible conversation recently, speaking to someone who went full TERF in a completely unconnected convo and then spoke over me, wouldn't listen, and got super defensive even though I was trying to find gentle ways to redirect their hatred. On the other hand, had an easy time persuading a neighbour not to vote Reform just by showing her how her ideas were the opposite of theirs.
