@boarders@mathstodon.xyz ironically, as someone who is fairly positive about llms as an engineering tool, I think the opposite is the case. Never before did I get to apply and get value out of the “dry theoretical stuff” and the fundamentals we had at uni. When it’s possible to build an OS by yourself, all that stuff about schedulers and paging algorithms and process trees becomes “ones daily dose of engineering”.

    @mnl@hachyderm.io lots of mathematics classes I imagine you could now also easily run experiments or get ways to visualize various phenomena which makes me think the core discipline and real scientific lessons are more valuable
