@ErinRose@chaos.social do hard drive motors have the torque for this? i've always thought of them as low-torque

@ErinRose@chaos.social (or do you need less torque than i think you do? for some reason i can't explain "unbalanced mass" seems to map to "high torque" in my head)

@emily@fedi.uni.horse not sure! a slow spin-up wouldn’t really be much of an issue, but I’m not really good enough at MechE theory to guess at how much torque the required eccentric mass would need to stay at speed with friction / varying gravity - so I’ll test it c:
