@swetland@chaos.social there are lots of valid arguments against AI code that can be made (e.g. using banks of GPUs to generate your little program is a huge hit to the environment for little output) that don't happen also to encourage the technical elitism that's stained our industry when people tell me that AI writes code like a junior engineer, I tend to point out that reviewing inexperienced code is a more difficult art than writing it, and onboarding junior engineers is something I do so I can help them grow; it's an investment I'm making in someone so they'll eventually not need through, difficult reviews to me, AI coding would present me with the downsides of giving a task to a more junior engineer without all that work translating into any potential for growth

@ktemkin@provably.online What I'm griping about here is people making the claim that "ai" images or writing are a problem but code, oh that's fine. It's one specific example of "oh ai X is bad but ai Y is fine" where X is always something the poster values or does themselves and Y is some other 'unimportant' component of the project. I'd far rather see messy code from a human than perfect code from an LLM (though I'm pretty skeptical about the existence of the latter).
