@swetland@chaos.social there are lots of valid arguments against AI code that can be made (e.g. using banks of GPUs to generate your little program is a huge hit to the environment for little output) that don't happen also to encourage the technical elitism that's stained our industry
when people tell me that AI writes code like a junior engineer, I tend to point out that reviewing inexperienced code is a more difficult art than writing it, and onboarding junior engineers is something I do so I can help them grow; it's an investment I'm making in someone so they'll eventually not need through, difficult reviews
to me, AI coding would present me with the downsides of giving a task to a more junior engineer without all that work translating into any potential for growth

@ktemkin@provably.online I personally don't use "slop code" to refer to actual human-written stuff, but I do see where the phrase could be problematic.
