@sauc3@hachyderm.io I agree that they SOMEHOW MADE NOTEPAD.EXE EVEN WORSE which is insane, but they also have Dave Cutler. Without Cutler the entire world would be a complete UNIX monoculture. Is that a desirable outcome? https://blog.codinghorror.com/showstopper/

@codinghorror@infosec.exchange Is your contention that this Dave Cutler dude wouldn't have existed and done cool things if not for Microslop? To your question about whether a UNIX monoculture would be better than a world where business run on M$ products, I actually think that would be a more desirable outcome. To be clear, I do not think that Microsoft has been good for computing, and having them be the sole option for most businesses has not been a desirable outcome. I don't think any monocultures are good, whether they be Windows or UNIX. If I had to pick one or the other though, I wouldn't pick the slop coming from Redmond. But what do I know? There are probably reasons why the world where Microslop is running in the corporate environment is the better outcome. I work in security, so I struggle to see those reasons. They probably exist though, I guess. Maybe like nation state hackers prefer it, because the code is so terrible?
