I used to be sad that vil couldn't support hooked overlays (without application support) on wayland as it doesn't really support input hooking/grabbing and subsurfaces don't get their own input. But a couple of weeks back I played around with wlr_layer_shell and it's... basically just a proper, integrated way to show overlays that are super hacky and error-prone on all other platforms?
