@hukl@chaos.social I am also talking about the web. If I have a URL https://some.example/foo/bar.jpg then of course the backend is totally justified to serve webp if my accept headers indicate that I can process it. If I choose to safe it to do something with it then most of the time I have to (lossily) convert it to JPEG again.

@_nd_@fnordon.de well I will definitely give jpeg-xl a try sometime soon but I'm skeptical that with all the promises it can beat avif in compression/quality ie quality per byte :) Plus the availability is definitely better for avif atm. But again - I don't care about your format choice - as long as you're not using inefficient legacy formats I'm happy :) No need to evangelize ;)
