Hi everyone, for any #Blind people out there, I was considering buying a #Kindle because I want to get better at reading than I have been over the past few years. How is the accessibility on a Kindle? Is it worth the price? I have Kindle unlimited and use the Kindle app, but find myself to be distracted with things I otherwise need to do or that come up, so that I end up not reading as much as I would like to. Any help or experiences would be appreciated.

  • @LeonianUniverse@caneandable.social Boother, you have a player and a free braille display.

  • @LeonianUniverse@caneandable.social I have 2, they are solid if you go in understanding that voiceview for kindle is very limited, there is 1 voice, you have speed and volume control, and navigation is gestures for back, start reading, and next/previous character or word. I read on mine heavily, the lack of distraction is a huge plus.

  • @LeonianUniverse@caneandable.social As far as I know VoiceView is great. It's onboard

@LeonianUniverse@caneandable.social @NicksWorld@mastodon.stickbear.me Rather than get a whole new device, try setting the do not disturb focus or creating one specifically for reading. You can get very specific about what and who can interrupt you and minimize the interruptions. Make a habit of checking the notifications centre and you shouldn't miss out on anything. I do everything on my iPhone and have set notifications settings and focusses so I'm not distracted when I don't want to be.

  • @LeonianUniverse@caneandable.social I read kindle books on a kindle fire tablet. I have nothing else installed on it other than the Kindle ap so I'm not distracted. The thing about the regular Kindles is you don't have a speaker so you always will have to use headphones. That's why I use the fire because I can also listen just on the device. Of course you could use a kindle with a bluetooth speaker as well.
