Y’all, shingles is AWFUL. One friend of ours needed to be in a nursing home for her recovery; my wife got it before she turned 50 so she couldn’t even get the vaccine when she recovered. The data saying the vaccine reduces dementia is just a lovely bonus on top of NOT GETTING SHINGLES.

@fedward@distraction.party I had it before I turned 50 and my doctor authorized me for the vaccine immediately (though I had to wait until after I recovered, obviously). I'm surprised they didn't do that for her. I have a friend who had significant neurological damage thanks to shingles. Scary.

@fedward@distraction.party Extremely pleased I was able to sweet talk my doctor into giving it to me at age 49. 😊 (Taking immunosuppressants helps.)
