@sjjphd@dair-community.social @chanda@blacktwitter.io I’m in that stage where the neighbors have been friendly and welcoming so far but I’ve heard about some things about the neighborhood, and I’m wondering if someone’s going to call the cops if I go for a walk later tonight.

An analogy: @sjjphd@dair-community.social and @chanda@blacktwitter.io are the kinds of users who could make many of us think, okay this new spot isn’t so bad. Maybe I’ll stick around, try the specials, text my friends to tell them to come out. But if they give a bad Yelp review …

@sjjphd@dair-community.social @mergerson@mastodon.social @chanda@blacktwitter.io I realize that online spaces are not somehow separate and distinct from irl—and I’m aware of the history of the Fediverse being rife with horrible groups of bigots who have to be dealt with and banned from the mainstream server base, but I’m still angry this fear is being replicated here & that its impact @ mitigation is (as per irl) so unequally imposed.
