@mergerson@mastodon.social reading about @chanda@blacktwitter.io and some other folks’ experiences on here is definitely why it took me so long to join and why even though I’m here now I feel very unsure about what my level of engagement will be.

@sjjphd@dair-community.social @chanda@blacktwitter.io I’m in that stage where the neighbors have been friendly and welcoming so far but I’ve heard about some things about the neighborhood, and I’m wondering if someone’s going to call the cops if I go for a walk later tonight.

@mergerson@mastodon.social @chanda@blacktwitter.io @sjjphd@dair-community.social I feel terribly about her first experience. I was one of the voices saying it doesn’t matter which server you choose, never dreaming she would be called names from her first post. It’s definitely and rightly damaged the creation of a safe space. Do you think if there was a server just for a POC community folks would be more comfortable joining?

@mergerson@mastodon.social @MiriShuli@mstdn.social This is a very valid concern, esp when you consider that entire instances can be defederated and/or blocked.

@mergerson@mastodon.social @MiriShuli@mstdn.social we should have servers segregated by content of character 😀

@mergerson@mastodon.social I have those concerns too. But my first concern is safety and having the ability to keep people out of your local feed from the get go would go along way of becoming established. I have seen a small list of instances/servers that have the needs of POC as their first priority. I would love to hear from them. While I am a white woman, one of my sons has a partner a from Uganda. Explaining American racism has brought me to my knees more than once.
