@mathew@universeodon.com @Energetic_Nova@mastodon.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io This is something I'm actually working on in therapy, if you believe it. The problem with relying solely on extrinsic rewards is that you kind of learn to "tolerate" them after a while, even when you get them.

@audiodude@sfba.social @Energetic_Nova@mastodon.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io Yes, it can also be unhealthy to deny yourself normal things until you do some self-imposed task — e.g. not allowing yourself to eat dinner until you’ve done the laundry, or not allowing yourself to go to bed until you finish an essay. Self care should not be a reward. That’s the one I have trouble with.
