@Di4na afaik all stats say about 70% of developers of open source, do it as part if their dayjob. people scratching their own itch, as part of their dayjob. Not all projects can find enough direct funding, but given enough distro success, they can afford to have devs employed to work on what needs it - which will often be those libs that individual corps do not focus on. That will mean distros might end up being the ones that has to offer dev hours on maintaining those libs

@KlavsKlavsen I uh. I think you are missing a point here which is that these stats are about contributing, not about maintaining. Maintaining is a restrained number of people that do most of the job and that have faaaaar less support. Once again, i would advise to go read the Road and Bridges report i link in the blogpost

@Di4na i know several devs, who work for either redhat or Ubunto and do kernel and lib work. Upstream projects using a lib (and who are visible enough to attract funding or day jobbers, will have to work on libs they need, if none exist.
