@abosio @nedbat If one grew up with one's parents driving a car that stopped its engine at red lights, it might seem logical that the car should just go when the accelerator is pushed? And... actually, why doesn't it work that way (with safety caveats)?

    @phoikoi It does as far as I know for the two vehicles I have used with that feature. Lifting your foot from the brake re-starts the engine and pushing the accelerator makes it go forward. Well, of course, for all cars taking your foot off the brake when in drive starts making it go forward a little, but I think that is more of a bug than a feature.
